Parking in or around schools has always been a controversial topic for some. Combining safety issues alongside air quality, inconsiderate parking and congestion, it can cause the perfect storm of issues.
No more so than Sandon Road. With four schools in close proximity, one of which required to provide specialist transport, there are times of the day where safety is wrongly ignored. Half baked ideas from your current councillors have led to no real solutions. What is really required here is an investment in the infrastructure around Sandon Road to support the schools and improve services for local residents.
Luckily there is an option that has been actively ignored by the decision makers which would enable traffic congestion to be avoided, improved road configuration and the creation of services for local residents.
The top field of Wyndham Park could be developed into a nature based solution that would increase the parking availability between all the schools, the introduction of improved bus stops for the services that serve the schools and local residents and create a natural corridor to enter Wyndham Park from the east.
This area is currently left as a grassed area and is popular with dog walkers. The introduction of this solution does not need to negatively impact the current biodiversity in this area as there are many nature sympathetic developments that can be introduced to encourage more diversity whilst also providing a useful asset for the local community.
More parking for school users and park visitors will improve safety, reduce congestion and create a hub that could serve the local community.
Now is the time to get this moving.
